Our story began in 2013 as a vision to transform the experience of hospital care for babies, families and healthcare professionals; to expand the scope of care to embrace our shared humanity and heal the hurt that often goes unnoticed in the fast-paced, technologically oriented business of healthcare.

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

A continuous journey of self-discovery and growth

The Trauma Informed Professional (TIP) Certificate Program is an assessment-based certificate program offering both live (virtual) and self-paced curriculum which is grounded by the eight attributes of the Trauma Informed Professional (TIP). The attributes reflect competencies required for completion of this certificate program.

  • You yearn for a safe space to explore your impact
  • You desire to be part of a supportive and validating global community

Program format has been developed to align with the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE)  standards and requirements for an assessment-based certificate program.

This program has been endorsed by the NIDCAP Federation International, Inc. the National Association of Neonatal Nurses the Council of International Neonatal Nurses and the National Association of Perinatal Social Workers

  • This program has been awarded 46 continuing education credits in accordance with 244 CMR 5.04 Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
  • This program is approved by the National Association of Social Workers (Approval # 886880045-6185) for 9 continuing education contact hours for social workers.
  • Kimberly Butny MSN, RNC-NIC, C-ELBW, NTMNC, TIP

"This program was the inspiration my soul was craving. I can honestly say that after 25 years of nursing I left this program with the same enthusiasm for nursing as I did when I graduated nursing school. It was exactly what I needed to reignite my passion. This certification was an amazing journey and I was sad when it ended. There is a comfort in knowing that you are growing personally and professionally with others who share the same vision.  What does being a Trauma Informed Professional mean to me? It means that I was given the knowledge, guidance, and support, to unlock the mindful practitioner in me who values the lives that we are so blessed to care for and care with."

  • Sara Clarke RNC-NIC, NIDCAP, NTMNC , TIP

"The TIP program helped me to integrate so many facets of my life; my faith, motherhood, my multiple roles as a neonatal nurse, and relationships with friends and colleagues into a more authentic, connected representation of my true self. I gained valuable insight, practical application and encouragement to live out my calling with purposeful intention and loving-kindness towards myself and others."

  • Melanie Peck BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy, TIP

"This beautiful program has guided me on a journey to recognise, believe and practice the true value, power and grace of compassionate presence in all I think, feel, do and say. Leaning in to "being with" rather than "doing to" to share both the highs and lows of anothers or our own life is surely everything we must embody as a trauma informed professional and human being."

  • Amanda Coffey OTD, OTR/L, TIP

"A beautiful and unexpected journey that allowed me to better understand the power that my humanity, compassion and empathy have on the world around me. Courageously and fearlessly unleashing my "why" and connecting to those around me can make a small yet powerful difference in the world of healthcare and beyond."

  • Staci Olister MD, TIP

"Every one of the 8 modules in this course resonated deeply. These attributes are not foreign but may be given a back seat at times to ego-driven characteristics that we believe are more important to success.  This course built very purposefully on each attribute to remind me that, personally and professionally, compassion, empathy, humility and vulnerability are the ones that fill us and allow us to bring our best selves into the world."

    Button
  • Rev. Nancy Sherman Carter M-Div; UMC Ordained Elder in Full Connection; Certified Spiritual Director; Chaplain - Women's Services, TIP

"There were many aspects of this program that touched my life personally and professionally in profound ways.  I was drawn to the phrases by Lee Mahaniah, leading with Love.  Love matters.  And the secret quality is love.  Trauma Informed care can create a kinder, compassionate, and connected world through love.  However, to truly see and hear others, knowing that you do not have all the answers, begins by reflecting on your own journey with vulnerability... Love matters!"

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does it mean to become a TIP?

A TIP realizes the pervasiveness of trauma in everyday life and its lifelong lasting effects.  The TIP recognizes that trauma is a shared human experience and is able to unbundle their own lived experiences to connect authentically with others.

The TIP Certificate Program is a journey of self-discovery and growth centered around the eight attributes of a Trauma Informed Professional. Throughout the certificate program, the TIP candidate rediscovers their authentic self and rekindles their passion for service to self and others. This program invites the learner to recognize their own self in others, to keep alive a knowing of our shared humanity, and buffer the effects of trauma for all they serve.

A TIP embraces the mission of Caring Essentials Collaborative in creating a kinder, more connected, and compassionate world, one moment at a time.

  • Why is it important to become a TIP?

A TIP recognizes and responds to trauma with the intention of mitigating and buffering the trauma experience for self and other.  The goal in caring for babies, children and their families  is to support healthy growth and development so they can thrive and flourish.  The American Academy of Pediatrics issued a policy statement in August of 2021 summarizing the urgency of trauma-informed care for all child health and human services. In October 2022 the National Association of Neonatal Nurses published its position statement on the importance of Trauma-Informed Care in Neonatal Nursing.  Becoming a TIP is crucial to protect and preserve.

  • Do you offer group discounts?

Yes, group discounts are available for the following:

    • groups of 5 or more receive a 5% discount
    • groups of 10 or more receive a 10% discount
    • groups of 15 or more receive a 15% discount

Contact us for more information: info@caringessentials.net

  • How do you maintain certification?

This program is not a certification but an assessment-based certificate program as outlined by the Institute for Credentialing Excellence. Once you successfully complete all the requirements of the program and pass the final exam you are a recognized Trauma Informed Professional for life. There are no maintenance requirements except to live and lead your life as a Trauma Informed Professional.

  • What time commitment will this realistically require?

This is a self-paced program, however on average learners complete all the requirements within 6 month.  You could finish as quickly as 8 weeks; however, if you look at completing it within 6 months, the time commitment is approximately 2 hours per week.

  • If I become a TIP how can I take this forward to others in my network to optimize outcomes?

Never underestimate the power of role modeling. As you progress through the program you will build confidence and courage as an advocate for change.  Upon completion of the program you will have all the essential ingredients to be a confident, knowledgeable and inspirational leader for change.  With each and every encounter with another person you are presented with an invitation and the opportunity to bring your best self forward and truly emulate what it is to be a TIP.
